Miss. DA Barton to Newsmax: New Law Would be ‘Crime Stoppers on Steroids’

Mississippi District Attorney for DeSoto County Matthew Barton, the man backing a new law to pay bounty hunters a $1,000 reward to assist in the deportation of illegal aliens, described to Newsmax on Monday that the proposal is “Crime Stoppers on steroids.”

“So basically, think of it like Crime Stoppers on steroids,” Barton told “Rob Schmitt Tonight,” “where you have a tip line where someone with, you know, worthwhile information can pass that along to law enforcement.”

“It will be vetted just like any other tip and any other crime category. If that information proves worthwhile, then authorities can authorize the detention of a certain individual, and bounty hunters that are licensed with the state, as well as peace officers, would be eligible to assist ICE in making these initial detainments and hold them until the federal government shows up to take over.”
