House Committee Chairs Outline Potential Budget Cuts

At a Republican House retreat in Florida, committee chairs outlined their plan for fiscal savings as plans for a budget begin to take shape.

The Education and Workforce Committee, for instance, is eyeing $60 billion in savings, while the Agriculture Committee is looking at cutting $50 billion. The Energy and Commerce Committee is focused on $200 billion in cuts, Politico reported. A handful of other chairs laid out their plans as well.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., told reporters Republicans want a budget resolution number that will be a floor of what they hope to achieve in savings.
