An Azerbaijani Airlines plane that crashed during its approach to the city of Grozny Wednesday was hit by the Russian Pantsir-S air defense system, but it is not known if the strike was intentional, according to Azerbaijan government sources, citing preliminary investigation results.
Further, the aircraft’s communications system was paralyzed by electronic warfare systems on the Russian side, reports ANewz, a global news and analysis channel headquartered in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
Reuters is also reporting that four sources in Azerbaijan with knowledge of the investigation say that the plane was downed by a Russian air defense system.
